The castle in the back is Matsumoto castle, Japan.
I had pictures of samurai armors as I created his. But I love it, I love the black parts, in reality they would be lacquered pieces. The sakura flowers of his armour should be made of opal or nacre. I did not know how to draw a tiger which would fit… A realistic one looked awful. So I just took that one, which was painted on one paperwall in Nijo Castle, Kyoto.
